Hello. I'm a new beekeeper by Firth, NE. I'm starting with one hive, but wanting to expand. Learning the ropes and reading/studying as much info as possible.
My wife and I are new to the bee community and eager to start. We haven't bought anything yet besides books and memberships. We plan to do our part in supporting bees' thriving and bringing in some honey. Any newbEe advice is welcome.
Thread still viable? I'm Adam, 3rd year bee in Walton. Started with purchased nucs from Matt Lance, then packages from Valhalla, and this is my first year without purchasing bees. I'm hoping to split and grow this Spring. Honey production is the goal to supplement income, while growing to around 50 hives +10 nucs.
Returning member after being gone for a few years. Still have bees but just a few colonies for now. Have a little more time now so hopefully raising a few queens and stronger winter colonies like everyone else. Live in Norfolk, NE. Hopefully see a few old friends again. Mike
Hi, I'm completely new to beekeeping but have been fascinated with bees my whole life and always thought it would be neat to have bees for honey etc. Recently my girlfriend and I have been planning our venture into raising chickens and homesteading. This inevitably brought me and my research to bees. Little did I know that I could keep bees in town(with certain caveats of course). So we did a deep dive into bees and beekeeping to realize that there's huge need for more bees and how much we will need bees in our future agricultural ventures for our homestead.
I've been doing tons and tons of research and my plan is to setup my first hive with an Askatraz queen/nuc here very soon.
I do still have tons of questions though so I'd love to pick a veteran beekeeper's brain.
Anyone keep bees in or around South Central Nebraska? I'm in Hastings.
Just recently got back into beekeeping after a few years away from it. Started out by helping a few friends in their apiaries and found working the them to be a rewarding challenge even relaxing to a point with always something new to learn or try. I'm mainly a hobbyist with only a couple colonies now. Located in the North Platte Ne area and happy to help others with questions or ideas. Maybe even lend a hand if I have the time (work tends to gobble it up sometimes).
Cheers! 😎
I just installed two hives purchased from Lappe in Peru IA., as a retirement hobby. I was inspired by a colleague that has hives in Papillion NE area. I have done online research but realize there is a lot I don’t know and looking for help with hive maintenance. NBA looks like it is just what I need when inevitable questions arise. Thanks in advance for your support.
Tried the ON THE SPOT {OTS} of Queen rearing on May 8th .Hey it worked so far I have 2 queen cells. I will see how this works in a nuc I tried it in.Getting new Queens looks like it could be pretty easy.
I was keeping bees unsuccessfully for several years. I also had a computer repair business in O'Neill NE and was too busy with the business to give the bees the necessary attention so gave up. I sold the business and retired last year and signed up for the Heroes to Hives program through the VA. I have just completed that course and have ordered bees for this spring. I have also signed up for the Great Plains Master Beekeeper program. I am looking forward to being a successful beekeeper in the future!. I live in Holt County and have had contact with a couple beekeepers in the area but would like to get in touch with more if there are members who live in the area.
Thanks for setting up the website - it looks great! I've kept bees for several years, but am currently taking a break. I'm definitely still interested in keeping up on beekeeping news and maybe sitting in on a class or two.
Hello beekeepers and pollinator enthusiasts, welcome to our new Honey Bee Forum! I have been keeping bees since 2016 and serve as the current President of the NBA. Here is one of my favorite honey bee pictures that I took last year. I planted a buckwheat cover crop in my garden and the bees were on the flowers for weeks collecting nectar and pollen. I hope you will share your favorite pictures and a little about yourself, too. Have a great day! ~ MV
